Japansylvania: POP

JAPANSYLVANIA, a virtual space created and curated by artists Bittany Kurtinecz and Molly Goehring.

JAPANSYLVANIA seeks to explore the connections which exists between two seemingly different places. From the neon excitement of Tokyo to the historic, sleepy towns of the Keystone State, each locale has their own unique traditions and cultural identity. Our goal is to create a virtual exhibition which celebrates the differences between artists from around the world, while also highlighting how we, as people, have a lot in common!

This year, we have decided to go with the theme of POP! Pop art, pop culture, a pop of color– bold, bright, exciting, and fun, we will show it. We also will share art which reflects your personal background, whether it be your specific culture or the place you call home.

JAPANSYLVANIA: POP! debuts on November 6, 2023 at 7:30 PM EST/November 7, 2023 at 9:30 AM JST. There will be a livestream of the opening event, and you are welcome to visit the world on Spatial.io. Spatial.io (also called “Spatial”) is where our virtual event is being hosted. The program is available to download from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store if you’d like to use it on your phone or tablet. It is also available on desktop and VR. It is free to download and works almost like a video game. You control an avatar and are able to explore the virtual space.
