Pink Buddha Dot Pink

Art, art brute, fine art, pop art

It’s funny how when we become open to seeing what is right in front of us the fog lifts and the mountains appear. I remember years ago, I moved into my current home under duress. I had been a victim of gang violence and was forced to move out of a community I had considered home. (I don’t like reliving details, so don’t ask me to. Ever. Please.)

About two weeks after we had moved in, I was still sort of depressed about the whole state of the move. My husband was getting ready to leave for work when he called me to come see something. He was on the front porch, it was October going into November, the smog had cleared out of the valleys, and there they were the San Gabriel mountains.

It is was an impressive view that morning. In the two weeks I had been in the new house, I was so caught up in the stress and boxes that I didn’t even notice this mountain range right in front of me.

This is a metaphor for me and my processes, I think. It was suggested recently that I consider creating a vehicle to help me with my career trajectory. Create new rituals, stop falling back on doing the same stuff. It was also suggested that I consider using materials that aren’t necessarily art related. Think about doing bigger larger scale things. How big can I go.

And it’s funny, because while I successfully funded the As Above, So Below project, I rarely can garner traction with my “normal” art works. But, Pink Buddha has a lot of interesting stuff happening and has shown up in other people’s art projects and there are some very big and exciting things coming down the pike. The vehicle is PB.

Sidebar: A recurring dream in which I lose my purse and wallet and identity and bank cards and keys resolved itself recently too. In the dream I was saying something to a guy in a kilt about not being worried about the bank cards and the I.D., those were easily replaced, I was concerned about finding my keys. He suggested I go back to the car and look for them. And I went back to the car which was a hybrid between a VW bug and vintage Mustang. The keys were on the passenger seat. The keys to the vehicle.

Second Sidebar: I did a self portrait years ago, pre PB, with my then 68 VW bug. I called it the Great Vocho. In the image I reference “The Great Vehicle” of Buddhism. Funny how the universe or the Cosmos or my goofy brain works.

Anyway, Pink Buddha has its own website. I’ve made a few decisions lately about what my objective is with PB, and it looks like a lot of fun is going to be had in the coming year. The kind of fun, that I hope will grant me some real creative freedom, aka, expansion into new territory for both myself and the Pink One. Buckle your seat belts…
